Unit Plan for Pickle Ball

This unit was created by Meghan Morrison, Marina Boe and myself. We included  web-based videos, individual lesson plans, expectations, assessment strategies, drills, adaptaptions and task progressions.

This unit can be easily transformed into a unit for any racquet sport

Lesson 2

Spatial Awareness and Support

Objectives                                                                                        

C.A.P.S
Cognitive:

    Understand the rules for in and out lines
    Understand scoring rules
    Consider their self and partner in space

Affective:
    Show enthusiasm
    Listen intently
    Have fun

Psychomotor:
    Support partner
    Adjust to situation with regards to positioning

Social:
    Work cooperatively
    Encourage

Main Activities:

Fukihara (10 minutes)
Verbal description of game 
Demonstration of game

Question & Cues:
Where do you go after you pass the ball?
How many passes per side?
How does having a low center of gravity help in this game?
Supporting teammate.

Doubles Pickleball (15-20 minutes)
Teams of 2
Games scored to 3 points
Teams rotate depending on outcome of previous game (Move up if win; down if lose)

Modifications:
Pickleball: Games were altered to improve quality of competition by minimizing stronger team's offensive space/increasing weaker team's offensive space
Fukihara: Adapted by offering a lighter ball for those who felt the volleyball was too advanced
