My Personal Blog

Who I Am Because...

This journey not only changed me, it also opened up my mind to new ideas and gave me a different perspective on life. Before I left I believe I wasn't ready to be in university and wasn't ready to make such big life decisions. Now that I am home I think I have a better idea of why it is I want to teach and how I want to be as a teacher as well as student. I constantly strive to be a better version of myself and work hard to be the young adult I need to be.

The trip I took abroad allowed me to meet people just like me that were lost in life, and it also introduced me to many people who had already figured it out. I many a lot of teachers along the way which was really great. I talked to all of them about their career and asked plenty of questions on their thoughts too. I got insight on new ideas and concepts while meeting awesome people that shaped who I am today.

If it hadn't have been for this trip I don't think I would have the passion that I have in school today. I matured and grew as a person while on my solo travels and not only learned life lessons but also learned more about myself too. I can bring so much to the classroom from the things I have seen and the people I have met and I can't wait to see what the future holds in my career too.

Personal Awareness Competency

Why I relfect this competency

After reading this core competency in the curriculum I realize how much this trip made me reflect on these aspects of my life. I demonstrate better self care now that I have spent time alone and realize what it is I need most in my life.  I am more aware of mental illness and see when I need to take time for myself to de-stress and relax to take a breather from things that cause my grief. I monitor my progress when setting goals for myself to better achieve things that I strive for. I see more personal success within myself as well as see myself making healthier choices in my life whether that's with food, school or my social life. I take care of myself first and take time to make decisions that better me rather than what 'feels or seems right'.  My determination to become a teacher has given me inspiration to do well and be a better person in life so that I can set examples for my students.
