About Me:

My name is Marissa Schweitzer and I am from a very small (but gorgeous) city located on the sunshine coast called Powell River. My goal is to complete the PDP program and return to Powell River to teach English in my old high school (Brooks Secondary).

I recently graduated from UVic (after a short stint at the University of Guelph in Ontario) with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in English and Psychology.

I work at Seaparc Rec Centre in Sooke as the Lead competitive swim coach of the Tyee Aquatic Club.

I enjoy breakdancing, rapping and eating cheese or mangoes.

Hello Marissa,

It looks like your peers have provided some good feedback. I may add that it is important to have our 4 artifacts, including their connections with BC teaching standards. If I simply missed these please let me know. Otherwise I think your Folioz is good! The only other suggestion I would make is to provide some context on your badge page. This way, someone unfamiliar to badges may recognize their pedagogical connection. Looking forward to those artifacts!

Marissa,

I enjoy that your photo is a proffsional photograph. This is a really nice way to see that you are thinking professionally. The context of your artifacts so far is thorough, and I can see that you have been busy planning more content. As I know what a "Salal Pal" is this part of your Folio indicates that you are proud of being a part of a community, and enjoy the group work. I wonder if there is a way for you to express this to viewers outside of the class?

Keep up the good work! Kyra

I very much enjoy your first artifact,  as it seems that you enjoyed, learned and have figured out a creative project to bring into a high-school classroom. Would you attempt to bring in older texts such as this into the highschool classroom? or would your project mainly involve modern texts?

The cross curricular idea of giving nature back it's groove sounds like a wonderfully project (may steal that). do you have any further ideas on that project? Also on the Cross Curricular page I would recommend creating a more eye appealing page, perhaps breaking up the the text with pictures and blocking it together instead of having so spread out across the page.

I enjoy the idea of the pod cast, and i sounds like literacy has played a large and significant portion of you life. The pod cast page is a good idea, though if you had the audio file, it would be nice to listen to whilst reading the transcript. Also the purple background is just... stunning.

All in all I very much enjoy your artifacts, they seem to truely reflect you and your teaching style!

Hi Marissa, You did a great job passing checkpoint one.

Your video was excellent and creative in that you filmed yourself while in transit.
