About Me

My name is Shayna Plotnikoff and I am a second-year student in the Elementary Teacher Education program at the University of Victoria coming from the small community of Grand Forks, B.C. My passion for children has made me realize I want to educate, motivate, inspire and help the future generation so they can grow up to reach their full potential, goals and desires.

My background related to teaching involves a variety of ages and abilities, including tutoring, coaching, summer camps, after school sports and art programs and childcare. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to do supported childcare in a family daycare which allowed me to explore sign language and different forms of communication while creating various activities for the child to feel safe and included. Also, I was the summer student for the Community Integration Program in my hometown. This service provides a positive and inclusive community based program for children and adolescence with developmental and physical disabilities. More recently, I am a Students for Literacy Reading Buddy promoting literacy in students during Saturday mentorships; a Vikes Nation Experience Executive involving the organization and engagement of Vikes Nation events both on and off campus and thirdly, and I am a part-time nanny.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring the island, spending time with friends and family, participating in spin and  yoga classes, cooking, drinking tea and “DIY” projects.

I love this program, but most importantly, I have a love for learning and I cannot wait to share this with my future students.
