Next Semester Plans
Currently I am doing my observation at Claremont high school.
I am volunteer teaching Physics AP and coordinating Physics Olympics with Rodney Paananen, a Physics teacher at Claremont. Physics Olympics was one of my favourite activities in high school. It taught me how to work collaboratively, persevere in difficult situations and even develop my problem solving and critical thinking skills. I am very excited to help the Claremont Physics 12 class prepare for this amazing opportunity.
I am also hoping to partner with Mark Neufeld next semester to create a design activity in the Global Studies class. I want to create a project where the students build on their technical and design skills and integrate those into their understanding of social and environmental issues. This project will model real life design project where connections between all the different aspects of a design must be considered.
Another activity I am planning to do next semester is to volunteer at Royal Oak middle school. After attending Royal Oak for an observation session this semester and watching their Inquiry class I fell in love with the idea of teaching at a middle school. In the inquiry class I observed, students were designing robotic arms to pick up plastic balls. Being an engineer, I am hoping to integrate those types of design and inquiry based classes into my teaching and am hoping that by observing and helping out next semester, I can get some ideas about how exactly to do that.
