I did a silkscreen project a while back; I thought I would share my process!

I documented it as a part of the assignment, but since then that blog has been used for other things.

This was part of my inspiration: I wanted to do an animation of someone dancing

"I’ve decided to go with the dancing girl, and leave out the art deco. I spent the whole day drawing and tracing, and then I manipulated it with GIMP to hopefully make my whole life easier. There is another set of four yet to be edited.

I still have to make colour decisions. The figures are quite small, and having several colours will make the editing process a lot longer than I would like. Something to consider while planning the last few weeks of class. One thing I know for sure is the slip will be translucent."

"I exposed my screen yesterday. The first time I tried, the fine lines didn’t show up, so I tried a shorter exposure. I was worried it wouldn’t work, but luckily it did! However, the image of the slip wasn’t pressed against the screen so it didn’t expose properly. We’ll see how it turns out."

"Here is the printing process. Normally one would print the outline last, but I wanted the translucent slip to cover some lines. I printed on a pale blue Stonehenge paper. This was, at first, because Island Blue didn’t have any white, but I think the blue works nicely. And I don’t have to print the blue jacket!"

I had a wonderful (and difficult) time learning how to make silkscreen prints.
