Traverse Wall Games

Following a route map:  This activity focuses in teamwork and communication. Students work in two person teams, one climbing and one giving verbal instructions. The non-climber on each team will be given a route map by the instructor. After studying the route map, the non-climber will verbally his/her partner through the climbing route. The activity is complete when the last hold on the route has been accomplished. Partners will switch positions and do activity again.

Follow the leader: A great game for all students, follow the leader works both memory and endurance. This also works well with larger classes because everyone can be involved at once if the wall is large enough. Played just as in sounds, a student begins traversing the wall. Once they reach a certain point the next students in the line begins traversing the wall, using the same holds the first students used. This entices most students to challenge each other, reaching farther and and using more difficult holds. Keep working through the line of climbers .

Tap its: Working in pairs or more, one person choose a hold for each hand and one foot. With the the other foot they see how many holds they can touch whilst their partner counts. They then swap places using the same holds, the person that touches the most wins. This game works on flexibility and realizing where and how far they can reach

4x4: Pick four route you know you can do on the bouldering wall . Do each one four time, make a loop and see how many time you can do each one .

Memory: The first person points out a sequence of 4 to 10 moves. There are no markings placed on the wall. The second person has to climb the route remembering each hold. The value of this climbing game is it teaches you to remember the holds in the route, making it an easier transition from preview to climbing.
