Final Video Reflection
Self-Reflection
Below are the key ideas I expressed in relation to (1) demonstrating competencies, (2) big ideas, (3) my beliefs about learning in PE, and (4) something I want to work on or improve
(1) Demonstrating Competencies
I believe that the interview clearly shows that I have understood the basic principles of TGfU and other teaching competencies. One example would be the "Understanding Concepts" page of the portfolio, which has detailed information of the four games categories, the TGfU model, and modified games. Another example that came up during the interview is my understanding of what goes into lesson and unit planning, as far as research, classroom management, and planning goes.
(2) Big Ideas
Some of the key ideas related to the four big ideas were:
- Indigenous learning principle of focusing on teaching others instead of learning as individuals
- Understanding Complex Learning Theory
- Participating in group activities during class to create modified games
- Understanding TGfU principles and the Sports Ed Model - building a unit around one culminating game
(3) My beliefs about learning in PE
One of the biggest takeaways from this class was my newfound understanding of Complex Learning Theory. Simply put, Complex Learning Theory suggests that:
-
Learning is an ongoing process of adaptation. It is “a complex, multi-faceted andcontinuous process of change”.
-
Cognition is developed through social interaction and collective knowledge
-
Knowledge is not an internalized representation of an external reality
(4) Something I want to work on or improve
One idea highlighted during the interview is my desire to be able to use the TGfU model for all games categories (not just net/wall games). Ideally, I would be able to plan a unit around each game category, while understanding the tactical concepts for each category, and having a wide range of modified games to teach those concepts.
