WHERE I'M AT...
In May of 2015, I completed my Bachelors of Education with a specialization in Physical Education and Social Studies (Geography emphasis). Upon graduation, I packed my things and moved to Whitehorse, YT for six months, where I had my first taste of Substitute teaching. I had the rewarding opportunity to teach students at the Elementary, Middle, and High School level. I also had the unique opportunity to gain Educational Assistant experience on all levels as well.
Upon moving to Vancouver in September 2016, I had a unique opportunity to work as the Physical Education Specialist for Pythagoras Academy from February to June of 2017. I taught full time Physical Education to all Elementary grades. In the 2017/2018 school year, I received a full time contract at Sands Secondary School in Delta, BC. I currently teach Humanities 8, Geography 12, Foods and Nutrition 9-10, PE Fit for Life (girls) 10-12, and Outdoor Education 10-12. I am also an active participant in extra-curricular activities within my school. I have volunteer experience coaching volleyball and golf, as well as leading clubs outside of school hours such as weight room and upcoming yoga sessions. I am an active member of a BC Core Competencies committee and I actively search for professional development opportunities to grow both professionally and personally.
FUTURE ASPIRATIONS
Academic
- Go back to school! I love challenging myself and expanding my knowledge. I have a variety of interests, but I would like to give myself time to determine what to focus my studies on. I am extremely passionate about holistic education, I see myself engaging in graduate studies related to that; whether it be obtaining my holistic nutrition certification and integrating that into education, or completing a Masters related to holistic education.
Career
- Continue pursuing my passion for nature and the outdoors by implementing an Outdoor Program or Club in a school or becoming involved in a current running program
- Engaging in life-long learning is very important to me in my personal and academic life, I plan to continue to grow and learn as an individual and throughout my career as an educator
- Teach in a different country at some point in my life
Personal
- Travel the world! I want to experience new cultures, gain new and refreshing perspectives, meet and connect with amazing people, learn new things and step outside of my comfort zone – grow.
- I would like to gain certification in Holistic Nutrition and Yoga.
