Daniel Geneau and I designed a European Handball Unit Plan for a grade seven middle school class. We began this unit working on basic fundamental skills such as catching and passing the handball and moving into open space. Throughout the unit we decided to follow the Sports Education Model, splitting our students into teams which are in constant recreational competition gaining points in a variety of different ways such as packing up the equipment the fastest or displaying team spirit. Our unit ends with a handball festivity tournament between these teams where the students in the class are competent enough to participate in and enjoy a full sized handball match.
