Fairytale Lesson Plan

BC Teaching Standard

Educators implement effective practices in areas of classroom management, planning, instruction, assessment, evaluation and reporting.

I believe this teaching standard follows this page because of my learning for classroom planning and instruction. By writing out a lesson plan I can pre-plan how I will teach my lesson to students, it gives me a guideline to follow and fall back on for when I am instructing in the classroom. Lesson Plans are key to developing a strong lesson and to fall back on when teaching. By writing out a lesson plan, unit plan and weekly plan of lesson plans I can better organize on what to teach my students. I can learn what works and what doesn't by having a rough idea of what I want my class to learn.

1st Lesson Plan

This was my very first lesson plan and I was fortunate to have a partner during this experience such as I will have during practicum. It was a learning experience where I made both mistakes and achievements. I learned an introduction to assessment, rationales and key questions. I also found out the importance of BC Learning Standards.  By incorporating these into my lesson plan I can build a strong lesson for my students and deliver valuable lessons for my class.

I had to switch my focus from a student-point-of-view to a teaching one. By switching this role I can truly understand my role as a teacher and be as valuable to my students as I can be.

As I have shown above, my lesson plan is laid out in a format that is handy for me to reflect back on and make notes to in adjustment. I was given a template in my seminar class which I found useful for myself and felt was easiest for me to follow and understand in a classroom.

This Lesson Plan is a stepping stone in my journey towards becoming a teacher. I know I will do many many many more of these lesson plans in the years to come.

Reflection

After Shannon and I presented our lesson plan to our class we were able to reflect on what we did well and what we need to work on. It was our very first lesson plan that we made in September and it was amazing to see how much we have progressed in our teaching skills from the beginning of the year. We felt comfortable in front of the class and the lesson plan flowed naturally as we had looked it over many times. I would have expanded on a few aspects of our lesson as well but it was great to practice teaching it to our peers. The feedback we received was positive which really boosted the confidence of Shannon and I because we were nervous about our ideas. The feedback provided peer insight to what we could add to our lesson and how we could express out ideas better too. All in all I believe we did a great job on our lesson and I was happy with the end result of teaching it too.
