Outdoor Education

I have always had a love for the outdoors. I was fortunate enough to be one of the last generations to grow up before the internet, cell phones, social media etc. I remember when kids used to play outside, explore, and test their limits in healthy ways learning about themselves and growing from these experiences. I was lucky enough to be able to go to summer camps and learn about the history of the land, first nations, and concepts like environmental stewardship. I think the most important thing was that I learned to love the outdoors. This is something that I would like to try to incorporate into my teaching and perhaps even develop as an extra curricular club. I think that biology and PE both provide for a wide variety of opportunities to get outside and experience rather than relying too much on the classroom. If you focus on the experience and get the students having fun their curiosity will take over and I think that this really enhances the learning process.
