I am currently a student at the University of Victoria in the Exercise and Physical Health Education department (EPHE). My teaching areas and interests are physical education, sports, and biology.
I was born in Edmonton but moved to Victoria and attended secondary school at Brentwood College and Oak Bay Secondary. Sports have always been a passion of mine. I played soccer and basketball in high school and still play rugby competitively with James Bay Athletic Association here in Victoria. Coaching is something that is new to me but I have really enjoyed my experiences so far and am looking forward to coaching in the upcoming middle school rugby 7s season. Outdoor activities and experiential education are also interests of mine and I have found that my teaching areas work really well with these types of experiences.
As a teacher my goals are to create lessons and experiences that students find engaging and that stimulate their curiosity about a given topic or activity. It is my goal to create an environment where my students become intrinsically motivated to both participate in physical activity throughout their lives and also to pursue academic success. In terms of biology I was initially interested mainly in anatomy and physiology but throughout my degree have developed a great appreciation for environmental sciences and ecology. One of my hopes is that I will be able to motivate students to think about environmental stewardship and that they will incorporate some of the values of conservation into their adult lives.
