New BC PHE Curriculum and Core Competencies that could be assessed in this Sport Education Yoga model
Curriculum Psycho-motor for Yoga: Students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop knowledge of and apply technical cues to going into and out of a variety of common Yoga Asanas in a safe and supportive environment
- Apply variations to Yoga Asanas to allow simplifications for practitioners to use as needed.
- Develop understanding of the progression of Yoga Asanas in a Yoga practice with the use of props to enable body alignment, strength development and stamina in holding poses.
- Apply appropriate breathing techniques to use when going into and out of different Asanas
- Develop the confidence and ability to practice Yoga outside of class and in one's free time as part of an active healthy lifestyle
Core Competencies.
Communication.
Students will have the opportunity to:
- Develop the ability to effectively communicate and model selective Yoga Asanas
- Develop the ability to take on a role in a Yoga team to facilitate a successful Team led Yoga practice
Thinking:
Students will have the opportunity to:
- Generate ideas to address the challenge of creating a Team-based Yoga practice
- Develop personal ability to understand and lead a sequence of Yoga Asanas.
- Develop ideas in assigned role to improve the team's ability to address the challenge of creating a team-based Yoga practice.
Personal and Social.
Students will have the opportunity to:
- Recognize and report on personal strengths in team project and use these to benefit the team and the class.
- Develop a positive attitude to the team task and encourage others to do their best whilst acknowledging the efforts of peers.
- Take opportunities to develop own personal strengths and abilities as assets to use in context with others
