Introduction
Welcome to our Pickleball Web-based Unit Plan. As you navigate through this unit, we hope that you discover that, using Pickleball as an example, skills learned can be transfered to many other games categories. We hope you enjoy this unit!
Included in the Unit Plan:
Games Content Analysis - Analysis of the key tactical ideas (conceptual knowledge) and skill content of the unit. Included are the concepts that a person needs to know to do the activity and the skills that enable a person to do the activity.
Sequence of Games - Outline of progression of games to be taught in the unit with clear connections to the content analysis. In this section, the tactical problems are addressed as well as the identified skills to be taught to address these tactical problems.
Skill Phases - Breakdown of off-the-ball and on-the-ball skills. Skills shown in four phases with key cues highlighted.
Management and Routines - Outline of plans to organize the learning space and to manage the students with class procedures, routines and expectations. Discipline processes will be outlined and student roles as part their assessment will be included.
Assessment Strategies - In this section, we have made explicit what is being valued in the unit and connected it to the BC IRP for PE. Ideas for assessing student learning will be included that address the cognitive, affective, psychomotor and social learning domains.
Game Outline and Progression - Visual outline of focuse games for the unit. Game outine will include diagram with aim and rules as well as video clip of the games being played. Focus questions to help students become tactically aware of the challenges in the game will be listed along with task progressions designed to help students develop their motor skills to address the tactical problems.
