About Me
I am an independent, education-oriented female with a vast amount of life experience from travelling and other experiences in my life. I have a fresh energy, a positive attitude, passion, and patience. I have always been a great mediator and have had to deal with very difficult situations in my life. I love using sports and games to bring people together and I believe that the lessons which can be learned from games can be transfered to all facets of life. I have played basketball, volleyball, golf, fastpitch, squash, and mainly Ultimate Frisbee at all medium to high levels. Because of my varied exerience in sports, I believe I have made connections between them all and have found different ways to teach them to different people.
My secondary teaching area is social studies and at University my focus was on war history and sociology. I believe that history is an extremely important educational tool for students to help them make sense of why the world is the way it is. Sociology allowed me to explore other areas of interest, namely religion, mental health, and sexuality and these allowed me to round out my degree so that I feel confident that I can tackle any class with some work!
I love using technology to enhance my coaching and/or teaching. It is a very major part of my teaching philosophy and I will always strive to be ahead of the times. I am a firm believer in exploring your passions and finding ways to connect the things you love into everything that you do. For example, I find ways to make videos for all projects that I do because it is how I learn and what I love doing.
I have held many different jobs over my lifetime including: bartending, serving, managing restaurants, golf course maintenance, irrigation, lawn maintenance, movie theatre concession, pizza delivery, coach, and many more. I love finding ways to challenge myself and do not shy away from difficult situations.
Education
There are so many videos out there which motivate me to help others' find their inspiration. Ken Robinson's videos are a source of that for me as well as other hard-hitting video which question the current education system.

Videos
I bought my first video camera with my savings in grade 8 and have been making videos ever since and I took 4 courses of television productions in high school. I have been hired to do wedding videos, sports highlight videos, indigenous council recordings, and government how-to videos. I love mixing media within all my lessons because I truly believe in how much of an impact it can make on a lesson. I am an efficient self-learner thus I have become technology-forward fairly easily. I also love sharing this knowledge with my peers.
Traveling:
After I graduated from high school, I moved to Calgary to work and save money for traveling. After working for a while at a restaurant, I had enough money to head to Australia to travel and get a job. After working in Melbourne for a while, I used my savings to travel Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. Each country was wonderful and stimulating in very unique ways.
After I got back to Canada, I started saving again. I had the travel bug! The next trip, we went to Thailand briefly and then to the Philippines for 3 months. The people we met, food we ate, and beauty we experienced blew us away. We also had some time in Malaysia in between.
After a couple years of working and traveling, I was finally ready to go to University. I ended up in Victoria and have gone on numerous road trips, hike trips, and bike trips since living here. My Ultimate team also allows me to travel to Washington, Oregon, and California a couple times a year.
Exploration is everything and no matter where you are, there is adventure right around the corner!
