BC Teacher Competencies
"Educators contribute to the profession"
"Educators support, mentor or encourage other educators and those preparing to enter the profession. Educators contribute their expertise to activities offered by their schools, districts, professional organizations, post-secondary institutions or contribute in other ways."
While I certainly don't relate to this competency in a mentor ship way and I do not have a great deal of expertise that I can provide to other teachers, I do have experience in organizing and planning events. This is a skill that I was able to bring to the Ride for Refuge as the Assistant to the Volunteer Coordinator. I spent my day running around making sure that the volunteers were supported in what they were doing and providing info to volunteers and riders. This is something I love to do and I was so glad to help out an organization and event that supports the vulnerable, exploited and the displaced. Many of the people riding were fundraising for local causes that will be helping our community and potentially some of the students we will be teaching.
Posters with info and route information was set up both at the volunteer training night and during the ride.
Level Ground provided coffee and tea for the event. I helped out here for much of the morning and had the opportunity to talk to Stacey (who we met at Level Ground) for quite some time about level ground's sponsorship of local events
Race day is always crazy, chaotic and tons of fun! This picture is of the Cridge Centre for the Family's CEO Shelly Morris who said words of encouragement to the riders before they set off.
