The thought of starting an essay, for many students, is a daunting task. One of my goals as an English teacher is to re-introduce students to writing in a fun, creative, challenging way. I place importance on teaching students the fundamentals of English such as grammar, and sentence structure, and desire to incorporate these fundamentals into a provocative, creative practice. I have experienced the freedom and enjoyment of approaching writing in this way while in University. For example, for a final paper in Psychology, instead of writing a twelve-page paper, I created a ‘Prezi’. The process of creating this essay-styled Prezi was a creative experience that helped the process of writing, and made the outcome feel more artistic and individualized. The attachments below are two forms of alternative forms of structuring writing assignment that I plan on making use of in my classroom.
