What was the situation that generated the content of this page?
Twitter was created by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz Stone back in 2006. Twitter was initially created as a short messaging system for small groups, each tweet needed to be 140 characters or less. Now, Twitter is one of the most popular social networks and is estimated to be worth $5 billion.
What were the tasks to create this resources?
Setting up a Twitter account is actually quite simple. All you need to do is follow these six simple steps:
- Choose a profile name. This is the name you'll be known as on Twitter.
- Add a photo of yourself so other users know who they are following.
- Complete a biography describing yourself and why you joined twitter.
- If you have a personally website or blog, you can add your website URL to your Twitter page so users can visit your site easily.
- Now it is time to follow other users, you can follow friends, family, celebrities, politicians and even companies on Twitter.
- Make your first tweet. Start by adding a hashtag (#) and then type what you want. Be sure to have no spaces. Example: #myfirsttweet.
What actions did you do in order to use this curation toll and how did you check the credibility of the sources?
I found my resources by typing "education", "technology in education" and "education apps" into the search bar. I then sorted through the pages that appeared to find credible sources. The pages for resources I found were shared by institutions and teachers. The apps were recommend to help students learn language arts skills, specifically speech and language skills. I also went online to research the apps to confirm credibility.
In your response to this task, what did you learn?
In response to this task, I learnt that Twitter can be an effective tool to find new and innovated apps to use in your classroom. Twitter opens doors to apps that help with speech and language skills, math and science. However, you need to be careful when you are looking because their are a lot of pages that do not come from institutions but rather from unreliable sources.
As a teacher what is your reflection on how you could use this process in your teaching?
As a teacher, I believe Twitter can be a great source of information. Many teachers, schools and institutions have Twitter accounts where they post the latest apps that are used in classrooms to help learn and teach different subjects, like english, math and science. Personally, I found pages that belonged to different apps that help with language arts and there were plenty of other sources available to use. As a teacher I am open to using Twitter in my classroom.
