Changing Education Paradigms

Summary

This video talks about the Changing Education Paradigms. It goes over how education was addressed in the past, whether it has been effective or not, and how education is changing in our modern world. The shift from emphasis on grades to learning has seen changes in learning. The learning environment in the past hasn't promoted learning and BC's new curriculum is addressing these issues. BC is at the forefront of the shift, and we see it implemented in our lesson plans. 

Developing Savvy Off-the-Ball Players

Summary

This was a summary of Chapter 13 from TGfU. The article focused on Off the Ball Movement, which is why I chose it. As a soccer player, this topic jumped out to me due to the importance of Off the Ball Movement in territory invasion games. I found the article incredibly informative and will help guide the way I teach that vital skill. In the past, the emphasis has been on teaching how to move off the ball, but now the emphasis is on why to move off the ball. This shift is changing the way people coach sports. 

The Effects of Distributed and Massed Practice Scheduling on the Learning of a Short Cup-Stacking Sequence

Summary

This paper was a study in which we tested the difference between Massed and Distributed practice. Our study revolved around Cup stacking. Essentially, the different types of practice promote different kinds of learning. We were testing which one was the most beneficial. This is super important in a Physical Education class as you teach kids new skills. 

 

Assessment

I feel like I have grasped the concepts of this Big Idea. The evidence for my learning shows that I engage professionally in class, I can properly summarize a chapter and can reflect on my past experiences in the field. 

Evidence

My contribution to the class stream has been professional and beneficial for the rest of the class. My responses to the classes have addressed the main questions and showed that I understood the main points of the lesson. My summary of Chapter 13 was able to grasp the main points while providing a proper summary of the chapter. I applied my own personal experiences to the reflection which helped provide a different perspective. 

Personal Growth

I feel like in order to be better in this Big Idea, I could engage more in the classroom. When I do engage, I find it beneficial, so I think I could find more ways to get engaged. 

Goal

I am going to try to respond to every video posted from the classes. I will also look for any extra beneficial resources that might help other students.
