About me
Sports have always been a huge part of my life. I grew up watching my parents and siblings and family play. I started basketball, soccer and field hockey in my elementary years, and started volleyball in my middle school years. I continued basketball, soccer and volleyball until graduation. I am now on the University of Victoria Women's Basketball team which has allowed me to continue sports as well as get involved in working with youth in sports.

Why Teaching?
I have decided to pursue teaching as a future career because I really enjoy working with kids, as well as incorporating sports, physical activity and active health. Teaching to me is very fun because of all the activities you get to do with the kids, and from watching kids grow in front of your eyes from your teaching. I hope teaching will also give me a opening to continue coaching. Coaching is a passion of mine that I want to be able to do when I am a teacher to keep me involved with sports while working with the kids that I teach.

What teaching and learning mean to me:
What teaching and learning mean to me is the students and teacher both have a full understanding of the content. A full understanding would would be knowing all of the components of the content, why it is important, and how it makes sense in relation to real examples.
How I teach:
I teach using the a mix between the discussion method and the demonstration method. The discussion method is two way communication that involves the students in the content. This way of teaching has me as the teacher listening to the students, as well as the students listening to me teach. Things like interactive questions are ways to get conversation going. The demonstration method is have a plan ahead of time of what the demonstration is going to look like, having the necessary materials to carry out the demonstration, and consider all points that need to be covered. It is important the students can see, are paying attention and understand the demonstration and the reason for the demonstration and how it ties back to the content being learned. I also try to teach through experiential learning and having the students physically involved with the content giving them the opportunity to teach the class about what they learned in their own way.
Why I teach that way:
I teach that way because I think it is very important to keep the students actively engaged by including them in their learning and promoting active discussion, it also helps solidify concepts to students who are unsure about the content being taught. I also use demonstration because a lot of students have a better understanding for something that they can visually see. They also become more comfortable about a task I might be getting them to preform if they see it before hand. I was in a class that had experiential learning in it, and we were supposed to share with the class what we learned in a unique way which gave us freedom and control over our own learning.
The video below is a video that I put together to show my learning in my experiential learning for global solutions class.
