English + Art + Socials
For our multiliteracies class we had to create a unit plan that contained lessons applicable to English, Art and Social Studies. With this unit plan there was meant to be 2 detailed lessons. Myself, along with two of my peers Anthony Loenen and Laura-Jane Wallace, created our unit plan together with the theme of expanding personal and cultural worldviews and perspective. We were very proud of how it turned out.
Mini Unit Plan
Reflection
This multiliteracies assignment was an excellent continuation of our tech initiative assignment. Though these two classes are not necessarily meant to overlap, these two assignments enhanced my understanding of collaboration and group communication as well as developing my awareness of multi-discipline unit plans. Also, in this assignment, our group focused on worldview and perspectives, so in many ways, this assignment was self-reflective and very focused on making a more empathetic narrative for students and teachers.
The teacher competencies that I believe this assignment showed were:
-Educators develop an awareness of the worldview you hold that shapes your experience and how this relates to others' worldviews.
-Educators cultivate a culture of professionalism by maintaining professional standards and expectations.
-Educators practice cultural response-ability to develop respect for all learners.
Looking back & forwards
Looking Back...
This assignment allowed me to see my own worldview and the amount of privilege I carry with me every day. Throughout our discussions, my peers and I were able to formulate ways to not just open the eyes of our students but also each other.
Looking Forward...
I am very excited to use this multi-disciplinary lesson plan in my English classes and alike to the tech initiative that I did with the exact same group of peers, this assignment made me realize how much I enjoy collaborating with others and the usefulness of doing so.
