Knowledge Achieved

Aboriginal education:

Through my UVIC education I was lucky to have taken a course on aboriginal education. Through this course I leaned many valuable lessons:

- Always treat all students as equals.

- Never assume one knows their heritage but embrace one’s want to learn it.

- Respect the land you are on like you are a guest.

Many of the courses taken have taught me about child development and at what ages kids will start to develop certain skills. As a teacher this is very valuable so teachers don’t demand too much from students skills at certain ages. It is important to teach certain skills at proper times for development so that students progress in to sports and skills instead of being asked too much of and losing interest in the game.

I posses many skills and techniques to help students engage in my lesson plans and I put these skills to use during my two week practicum.

-        Basic use of smart boards

-        Ability to create complex PowerPoints and Prezi’s

-        Very good with computers

-        Utilize routines with students to help with classroom management

-        Good with names ( use of names is the best way to get the attention of students)

-        Use positive language and avoid unnecessary discipline

-        Good communication skills
