Lesson Description
This lesson was created for EDCI 306 and is meant for a grade 2 or 3 class. The main objective is to help students recognize their ability to change their vocal timber in order to express emotions. This lesson was created in cooperation with four of my classmates and presented to our class to receive feedback. Note: This lesson was adapted from a previously created lesson within our music textbook.
Reflection
What I learned throughout the process of creating this lesson is how to better plan for a lesson in a group. Although at times it was challenging to find ways to combine all of our ideas, working in a group was beneficial as it allowed us to have a more dynamic accumulation of ideas. The ability to work in a group and combine the best ideas from everyone is a beneficial skill to have moving forward, especially when considering that we will be doing our first practicum in a pair. It is important to be able to share ideas and compromise on what should and should not be included in order to come up with the most effective lesson.
Through this process, I also learned a lot more about how to create a music lesson that focusses on one musical attribute. Furthermore, having an opportunity to teach this lesson to our classmates helped me to better visualize how the lesson could be carried out in a classroom setting.
I look forward to trying this lesson in the future especially around Halloween.
BC Teaching Standards addressed through the creation of this lesson
Educators implement effective practices in areas of classroom management, planning, instruction, assessment, evaluation and reporting. - This lesson identifies my ability to create and implement a music based lesson.
Educators have a broad knowledge base and understand the subject areas they teach. - This lesson demonstrates my basic knowledge of the musical concept of timbre and how it can be applied both in music and in cross curriculum opportunities.
Note: Timbre is the character or quality of a musical sound or voice as distinct from its pitch and intensity.
