Level of competency

Reflection #1

My first artifact is a picture of myself rallying back and forth with Liam. During this activity we were playing a modified tennis scoring system in our pickle ball game. Well playing I found that the tennis scoring and pickle ball rules beneficial to my partner and me. As the game progressed it became more intense, which added excitement. The tennis scoring system made games quick but also allowed everyone the chance to succeed. Players that were losing were given an advantage by starting off with more points than their opponent in the next round. This competitive atmosphere leads to greater participation, which is crucial in a classroom of kids.

Through the last weeks we have been participating in a variety of modified games and adaptations to allow us develop an understanding of tactical awareness decisions. As the game become more intense, the importance of the tactical awareness became critical in order for us to beat our opponent.

After looking back at this class I realized how important it was to develop the tactical awareness so that I can make correct choices in the game. For example, where to go after my shot in anticipation of where I believe my partner is going to put it or placing the ball short forcing my opponent to quickly move to the net.

Reflect:

  • Assessment: Personally, I think I am proficient in this big idea as I performed learning for this big idea on my own with no help from the teacher.
  • Evidence: This piece of evidence shows that I am developing tactical awareness by placing the ball in area where my opponent is not expecting, which is learned through the TGfU model.
  • Personal growth: I now feel confident that I can rally back and forth with my partner and even succeed.
  • Goal: I would like to improve my tactical awareness further by trying other net/ wall games not just pickle ball.

Reflection #2

This second artifact is my article summary. I summarized “Teaching under the influence: feeding Games for Understanding into the Sport Education development-refinement cycle”, which discussed how to incorporate TGfU model and sport education model into the teaching practice.

Reflect:

  • Assessment: I believe that I proficiently perform the learning implied in this big idea because I posted my summary on time as well as effectively summarized the main points within the article.
  • Evidence: This is a scholarly summary that I summarized and posted to the google classroom.
  • Personal growth:  I learned how to effectively share my summary for my other classmates to learn shown through my article summary post. By completing this article summary I know that I can effectively summarize any article and then have my classmates learn from the summary.
  • Goal: I would like that to learn how to concisely summarize, in order for my classmates who don't have a lot of time to still be able to read and understand my article summary.

Reflection #3

This artifact is a video I made as an overview of what happened in class on Jan 28th and posted it to our google classroom. This video allowed my peers a sense of what happened during class if they were unable to make it that day but also provided my classmates who were in class a refresher of what we had done.

Reflect:

  • Assessment: I believe that I am proficient. Through this video and summary with the video I demonstrate a clear understanding for the associated competencies with minimal help from the teacher.
  • Evidence:  The video I posted to the classroom stream, promoted learning for my classmates. As well as demonstrating my professional engagement on the stream.
  • Personal growth: I now feel like I can competently make a video using iMovie as well as upload it the to appropriate site.
  • Goal: To improve within this big idea, I would like to reply to every comment on my video post to further increase learning of my peers and myself.

Reflection #4

The 2 artifacts labeled "google stream class comments" are screen shots of my posts on the google stream. Every week I comment on the stream with regards to my peers video and questions they posted. Its important to comment on the stream to show what we learned from class that day but also connect the learning from the class to readings we have be assigned prior.

Reflect:

  • Assessment: These artifacts represent that I am proficiently meeting this big idea.
  • Evidence: Every week I comment on the google stream without being told demonstrating my learning. I think I make it evident that I have a clear understanding of what is going on in class and online, which is the associated competencies.
  • Personal growth: By posting to the google classroom I can effectively share my ideas and what I have learned so far.
  • Goal: My goal for the rest of the semester is to continue to demonstrate my learning through class comments and not do just the minimum of 8 posts.
