About Me
My name is Christine Bonneau and I am in my fourth year at the University of Victoria. I am in the BEd Secondary program specializing in Physical Education and Social Studies.
I grew up in Calgary, Alberta and believe that my exposure to the outdoors in and around Banff National Park have played a pivotal role in my development as a person and also a future educator.
I have experience working with various aged youth (9-16) in the Rocky Mountains guiding hiking, camping, canoeing, and horseback riding trips through Camp Chief Hector YMCA. I believe that through this experience I was able to grow my leadership skills, and showcase my positivity, adversity, and strength.
I also have 2 years experience as the head coach of the Mount Douglas Secondary Senior Boys volleyball team, in which I learned both management and communication skills that are transferrable to the classroom.
In the process of earning my degree I have had the opportunity to co teach 4 yoga lessons at the university, as well as 3 volleyball lessons in a local middle school. In the volleyball unit which was taught more recently, my co-teacher and I focused on the teaching games for understanding (TGfU) model to facilitate greater student engagement and understanding.
Overall, I believe that my passion and experience in the outdoors as well as my experiences in local schools have allowed me to grow as an educator. Within the context of this course, I have been opened up to new teaching methods such as TGfU and the Sport Education Model which are helpful tools to implement into my future teaching practices.
