My Exit Interview

Reflection

During the EDCI 336 course, we were instructed to create the e-Portfolios on Folioz that include information about our work and volunteer experience as well as artifacts to show our learning in this profession. Over the course of 3 months, we were able to become aware of the always changing social media apps and websites and were taught how we could use these apps in the future in our careers. This tool, Folioz, enabled us to create an "online resume" where we could highlight and document specific achievements to show to future employers and, in this course, our interviewer for our Exit Interview.

This Exit Interview done on the last class of the EDCI 336 course gave me a look into what the interview process of an teacher/educator would be like. Though the purpose of this interview was not to be able to receive employment, my interviewer still asked questions similar to ones that could be asked during an interview for employment. Initially, I was a little nervous for this interview naturally. However, we did receive some preparation tips from Tim Hopper on what could possibly be asked during this interview. For any interview, you must be able to anticipate what questions could be asked and how to think on your toes. My interviewer, Kerry Robertson, asked me questions regarding my Folioz and how I could show this to a potential employer. The interview itself was, what I describe, formal yet informal at the same time. It was formal because I had to treat it as any other job interview and have a professional input on my outlook on the idea of Folioz. But it was also informal in a sense that it was a comfortable situation and there was room for error as our interviewer gave us feedback on our interview and e-Portfolio. There was one moment in my interview where I needed a few seconds to think of a response and Kerry was very supportive.

Overall, I think that this exit interview was beneficial for us to experience because this is the first of many possible interviews we will encounter throughout our careers. I am grateful to be given this opportunity to learn and improve my interview skills.
