Introduction

The various courses I have taken have made me a better teacher. I understand how teaching is really a transverse process. You are always learning, and looking for ways to improve things. On this page I have included some sample reflections and assignments that show my development over the years. A large portion of my volunteered time was spent coaching the UVic Quidditch team, and the links below, particularly to coaching experience page, show practice plans and reflections.

Reflection of Peer Teaching Experience

During my education at the University of Victoria I was given the opportunity to teach some of my peers a sample basketball lesson. With my partner, Nick, we taught separate activities, and provided each other our thoughts on how things went. This was an excellent chance to actually get out there, and try new things in the safety of our peers. It also gave us a chance to see how we look teaching and what things we should change about our styles.

Reflection of Basketball lessons

Following our peer teaching lesson, we were given the chance to go into a local school and teach a few P.E. lessons. I really enjoyed this experience, as it gave us the opportunity to see flaws in our teaching or lessons, without any bias from our own peers. It was really fun to work with real students and get a feel of how teaching will actually be. There is still much I can improve on, and I hope to use experiences like these to become a better teacher. You can see the games we used in our lessons in the Basketball Resource Drills section.

My fiance loves dance, and dragged me out to learn. After a rocky start, and many stepped on toes, I grew to thoroughly enjoy ballroom dance. The image on the left is of us competing in a beginner Waltz and Cha-Cha event. We ended up winning gold in both heats.

I want to provide my students with different ways to stay active and healthy. Whether teaching quidditch or dance, I hope to inspire my students to try new things. I was hesitant to dance at first, but now want to teach it in P.E. Dance has faded from most High School settings, but I want to change that. It is a fun activity that has multiple benefits that include health and wellness.
