Growing up in the small town of Keremeos, B.C. has provided me with many great opportunities to become a leader, motivator and team player. I would not be the person I am today without the experiences I gained from living in such a small town.

How Educators can Effect Students Lives

This woman explains the importance of a good teacher in a students life. A good teacher can make all the difference. If a teacher comes to class caring about their students and wanting to help make them into great people, the students will respond much better compared to a teacher who only comes to teach the subject alone.

About me

My name is Alex Vikner. I am currently studying at the University of Victoria to become a PE and Social Studies Teacher. I have a passion for sports! My whole life I have been involved with nearly every sport there was possible. I grew up playing 15 years of Hockey, also played high school Basketball, Volleyball, and Soccer. After graduating, I walked on to the Okanagan Sun Junior Football team with an open tryout. I have always been looking to improve myself, and my knowledge on all of the things I am interested in. That is what lead me to coaching. I got involved coaching my old high school Basketball team as an assistant coach! That year we had a lot of success, and came third in Single A Provincials. The great time that I had motivated me to become a teacher. Seeing the world has always been a dream of mine. I have very few experiences of going out and seeing the world, but that did not stop me from learning its history and geography. The world is a wonderful place, and most kids start to learn about the world during their Social Studies classes. I want to inspire youth to see the world, learn the history, and create its future. Working with kids was great, and I knew that it would be something I could spend the rest of my life doing. I am now looking forward to my future, and I am very excited for all of the new possibilities that are going to come.

My First Coaching Experience

This team was my first coaching experience, and I don't think I could have had a better group of kids. They were motivated, intelligent, and very skilled. One of our better players was only in grade 10 at the time, and he was playing full time for our senior squad. The captain of our team was not the most skilled player, but he would work harder than anyone else. Since we were such a small school, we were in the single A league. We qualified for provincials and were ranked very high in the provincial standings! When we went to provincials in Langley, we had a lot of fans from our small town travel out to cheer on our team. This community spirit was very cool to see. We ended up coming third in provincials after some great games. Even though I was only an assistant coach, it was such a valuable experience that I will never forget.
